In the Bag: Prisoners of War: 1915-1945
December 11, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - December 12, 2016 @ 4:00 am
The experience of being a prisoner of war was not unique to Australians, but it was a unique experience for Australian servicemen.
The one day conference In the Bag: Prisoners of War 1915-1945 brings together a fascinating series of presentations.
Keynote speaker Dr Michael McKernan will lead a range of speakers including from the Australian War Memorial, the University of Melbourne and the Australian National University, the Shrine and the Australian Army History Unit as well as independent historians and authors.
They will explore the Australian experience of being prisoners of the Germans in both wars, of the Japanese and in reverse, prisoners of Australia.
Speakers will also explore the impact and legacy of captivity on families and prisoners alike as well as the fate of a Victorian in the Great Escape in 1944 and of those caught up in the Pacific submarine war while being transported to Japan.  Not to be missed
