Gallipoli in retrospect

January 1, 1970 @ 10:00 am

A free public event to mark the centenary of the end of the Gallipoli campaign.
Sponsored by the Contemporary Histories Research Group at Deakin University, and the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary Local Grants scheme.

Western Beach Room, Deakin University Waterfront campus
Enter through the Sally Walker Building, via Cunningham St. Take the elevator to the 6th floor, and turn right.

The Gallipoli campaign ended in Allied failure with the withdrawal of their forces from Peninsula in December 1915 and January 1916. On the centenary of the end of the campaign, this event brings together three Deakin University historians to evaluate the experience of Gallipoli on the battlefield and at home. Could the campaign ever have succeeded? How did those at home support the war? And how did they cope with the pain of their losses?

Join Dr Dale Blair, Dr Matthew Richards and Dr Bart Ziino as they re-examine Gallipoli from the streets of Geelong to the heights over Anzac Cove.

All are welcome. Light refreshments will be provided.
