Debt of Honour Photographic Exhibition – Bruce Butler
January 1, 1970 @ 10:00 am
Reflects the debt of honour owed by Australia to the Timorese people. In 1942 two of Australia’s first Commando units who trained at Wilsons Promontory fought a guerrilla war against the Japanese in former Portuguese East Timor. The Commandos only survived through the support of the Timorese people who provided food and shelter, warned of approaching danger and assisted with escapes after ambushes.
As a member of the Friends of East Timor group, Bruce Butler has created this exhibition to show the Australian people the debt owed to both Australian soldiers and the East Timorese people whos supported them during world War II
