Lines in the Sand – Hobson’s Bay Defences of Williamstown & Sandridge 1854 – 1871 – By Keith Quinton

Based upon two decades of research, ‘Lines in the Sea – Hobson’s Bay Defences The Harbour Fortification of Williamstown and Sandridge 1854-1870’ – provides a detailed 300-page historical analysis of the fortification defence of Melbourne, from the era of Imperial Garrison troops and the Victorian Volunteer Artillery to the formation of the Victorian Artillery Militia, circa 1870.

A detailed history of the development of the gun batteries and war vessels that were constructed to defend the port of Melbourne, Victoria between 1854 and 1870.

The book uses full colour photographs, graphics, & maps, to supplement a text that examines the intricate mesh of Defence Committees, contacts between individual Royal Engineers acting as colonial agents, and the direct negotiations carried out between the Victorian and Imperial governments.

Self-publishing is an expensive undertaking, in this case largely unavoidable. The consequence is a very expensive publication that is probably beyond the boundary of most buyers. Because of this

I have made the book available in high definition PDF format – matching the price of a single cup of coffee.

My book can also be viewed online in full preview at Blurb Books: https://au.blurb.com/b/12069285-lines-in-the-sand
